Sunflower, today noonish --- the blob is a nice fat honeybee. I caught great footage of two honeybees on the sunflower, but couldn't pull a good pic.

The nonsensical garden

sunf2

While you all are growing culinary herbs and attractive flowers in your window boxes, I'm growing mammoth sunflowers. And the first one of the season is getting ready to bloom.

Hawk

Well, first of all, it's official --- not only are we having a drought, but we're having unusually warm temps. The good news is, storms moved in again from the north early this morning, although I'm still baffled as to why we're having storms move in from the north. The bad news is, there's some areas close by where drought conditions have hit extreme. Let's hope it's over soon.

Second, Mr. Hawk is back again. Last spring, I suspected hawks were nesting on my land because a hawk dive-bombed me one afternoon. Still, it's a hard thing to tell --- there's hawks everywhere here and I haven't yet found the nest.

However, given this is twice in a row I've found a hawk perched on the falling down fence around my yard, I think it's safe to guess they've got this place staked out as their territory. Which also explains the fight I saw between the hawks and some scissortails a few days ago.

So here's more hawk pics --- bear in mind I'm shooting these on a camcorder through a window and pulling photos off the footage. All the foilage behind the hawk is trees in my hollow --- it's stll pretty densely forested down there, but gorgeous. I'll be doing some clearing of it soon enough.

I know I know I know

I've completely lost my reading audience, thanks to what a lazy negligent unappreciative blogger I am.

Well, WHATEVER.

But truth is, I do appreciate all dozen of you who read this and I really am sorry I'm such a bad blogger, and i have extra special apologies to go out to Rob because I still haven't done the book thing.

And I mean to, I really do, but people, I'm telling you, my life has just been too strange lately. I mean, the heat, yea, too much!

But I'm having all kinds of strange dreams --- of course, you have to realize I may be a little PTSD because my family has like almost completely kicked off over the past couple of years. And i haven't entirely resolved it all. So there's lots of Death Dreams going on.

And then, I mean, two days ago, I went out front and over the fence comes that buck living down below. He just sails right over the fence, glances at me while flying through the front yard, sails over the other fence and flies down the field.

I've watched that little fellow grow up, you know. But he's fixing to be dangerous big. And what a freaking rack! He needs to quit leaping 10 feet into the air and landing in my yard, you know.

But that wasn't the weirdest. The weirdest was the buzzard flying down my road about four feet off the ground, just like he was driving a car down the road. There's buzzards all the time out here, but usually way up high. This fellow, though, was following down the road just like he was driving a little invisible car.

I have no idea. I just have no idea anymore.
